This unit explores social, economic and environmental factors that influence healthy eating behaviours and overall health. It examines how an individual’s level of knowledge and awareness of healthy eating behaviours affect food choices, and considers the roles of income, family, peers and community. Learning tasks require students to reflect on their own level of knowledge and awareness of healthy eating behaviours and develop practical ways to ensure they are meeting their nutritional needs.
Students explore the impact of income on healthy eating behaviours and learn practical skills for food shopping on a budget, enabling them to make nutritious food choices even with limited financial resources. Students then develop an online ‘health promotion campaign’, designed to raise awareness, influence attitudes, promote healthy eating behaviours and increase connection to the community.
