A nutritionally balanced eating pattern is critical for optimal growth and development in children. This unit introduces the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating which helps students learn about healthy types and amounts of food and drinks from the Five Food Groups. These foods include lean meats, poultry, fish, legumes, beans, grains, milk, yoghurt, cheese, vegetables and fruit. Students will also learn about discretionary food and drinks to be eaten only ‘sometimes’ and in small amounts.
